Orange Chair Diaries – June 9, 2013

Annetta, my girlfriend, one day told her daughter to throw out the old fuzzy orange chair that was in her room. As Allison was walking out the door to put it on the curb I suggested we shoot some photos with it which has started the chair on a journey. The newest photos where taken today on Dickson Street Sunday.

I drove down the night before and spent Memorial Day helping, my girlfriend who works for Tyson food, feel disaster victims and relief workers. While there I spend some time going out with the helpers and shot some photos of them handing out food.

Before the Homecoming Dance

I was asked to shoot some photos of my girlfriend’s daughter and her friends before they went to her high school’s homecoming dance. The girls and there dates were having fun so at one point I asked them to strike a pose at another time I asked them to just jump at another time which made for some fun photo.

A Study: What Makes It Look Like Your Flying

What does it take to look like your flying in a photo.

While on a family trip my family and I played with the idea as we were visiting New Mexico. To me the trick timing when the photo is taken and the person jumping must try to look relaxed and to kick your legs back just for a second.

I took several photos of family members and tried to talk them through what I thought would work But I think my sister took the best photo of me jumping.

Albuqurque New Mexico Balloon Fiesta

Spend the morning in Albuquerque New Mexico at the Internationals Balloon Festival with over 600 register Balloons at the Fiesta even on a Monday when they were not having what they is called a Mass Ascension, which they have on the weekends, there were still a lot of Balloons. I had gotten there at 5:30 to shoot the Dawn Patrol Show I had read lifted off in the dark and glowed from their gas flames as they ascended but due to the heave wind they where not launching. At 30 degrees that morning I was questioning if it was worth the trip down so early from Santa Fe, where I was having a family vacation. But when the word did come down a little after the sun broken over the eastern mountain an hour later I was no longer doubting my decision. It was a lot of fun watching so many large and interesting balloons fill and take to the sky.

Went to grab dinner last night and had to stop and shoot some of the lightning a storm was producing as it rolled north of Fayetteville.

Recent Shoot at Crystal Bridges

I was recently hired by USAToday to do photos for an article on the new Crystal Bridges Museum. A new 100 million dollar museum opens in Bentonville, Arkansas, November, 11, 2011.

The people at Crustal Bridges were so great to work with and Don Bacigalupi, Crystal Bridges’ executive director, whom I think will never let you see him sweet, was very gracious and patient of his time as I did photos of him in the hot summer sun, wearing a suite.

Even thought there is a lot of finishing work going on the staff allowed me to shoot inside several of the building. With everything nearing completion you can really see the museum is beautiful. The water features have not been finished so photos in the commons area and of outside over all, really doesn’t give the physicality justice as to how you can tell it will look once they are finished.
